EBS Next Generation Technology Stack

If you are using Oracle E-Business Suite, you should already be aware of the Next Generation Technology Stack. What you may not be aware of is the changes since Ascend 2026. In conjunction with the the OATUG, the EBS ATG group at Oracle has been presenting a series of webinars about the new technology stack. for more information about the series go here. For the past webinars, you will have to be an OATUG member to access the recordings.

The most important part of these changes is the urgency. Oracle has stated that companies will be expected to be live on the Next Gen Tech Stack within a matter of months when it is released. In June, there was no stated target for a general release, but the statement was made that they hoped to have some customers live by Ascend 2027. The sense of urgency and the rate that Oracle is provided information to get prepared for the upgrade, you should be planning to have completed your upgrade next year, potentially early next year. This is my impression based on the tone of the presentaions. Oracle has not stated a timeline beyond the general statement that customers will be expected to have completed the transition in a matter of months instead of the typical release where you have years to upgrade.

What can you do now?

Get patch 38474509, the tsua_readiness_patch. You unzip this patch, and run tsua readiness from the tsua_readiness_patch directory. This will list your status on the completing the prerequisites as well as providing a list of potentially impacted customizations.

If you are not already on Linux 8 for your applications tier, You need to move to that platform. This is a requirement imposed on E-Business Suite by the Web Logic Server. WLS is only supported on Linux 8. If you are on any other platform such as Windows or AIX, you need to start this project this week.

I will be doing more posts about related topics such as updating from BI Publisher to Analytics Publisher (another prerequisite). You should also pay attention to the OATUG Tech SIG Talks (typically on the first and third Friday of the month) as we will be presenting information and holding panels to help companies with this transition. While most of these sessions are open to non-members, the recordings are only available to members.
